Gramma Goose by Sally

The first few months of my new granddaughter Florence’s life have given our family many opportunities to share rhymes, songs and lullabies at home and on the go.

30 years have gone by since I first experienced the powerful effects of Mother Goose rhymes and songs on my own children. The effects have been long lasting within our family.

Here are some recent highlights that Florence’s mom, Erika, has shared:

1) The lullaby that was most effective for soothing Florence wasn’t a lullaby at all. ‘Ride, horsie, ride, chch, chch, chchc, ride that horsie, ride, chch, chch, chch,’ a favorite gallop in Lullabies & LapRhymes, was sure to soothe Florence every time.

2) An activity that Florence enjoyed nonstop was gentle bouncing up and down. Erika found it was helpful to have a variety of rhythms to choose from. A favorite was the burping song, written by Sally, ‘12345, my little baby pie. ABCDEFG, would you like to burp for me?’ (sleep, smile, etc.)

3) As an alternative to singing or doing the actions, Erika found soflty speaking the words of songs had a soothing effect on Florence.

Do you have a favorite rhyme or song that you play with your little one?

We always love to hear from you!
